Nothing is stronger than the family unit. And on this foundation, Stiemar Bread Windsor Co Ltd enters its seventh decade with an enduring commitment to serve an extended family that includes our caring employees and valued customers.

Established in 1959, "Stiemar" was coined from the surnames of founders Luigi and Anna Stievano, and Luigi and Felicita Marson. They sold European-style breads, baked lovingly and delivered with care to homes, restaurants, and banquet halls in and around our hometown of Windsor, to which we remain fiercely loyal.


The site of today's bakery is the site of the original Stiemar Bread Co Ltd.


By 1969, our reputation for fine quality had grown such that our clientele wanted more. So, we began inviting them to stay and enjoy our baked goods on-site in a casual, family-friendly environment.


To provide a proper welcome, we created a counter-and-stool setting, pioneering a unique "coffee-and-donut" culture that continues to thrive as we serve third- and fourth-generation customers in a charming, retro atmosphere.


Baker In 1970, Luigi and Anna sold their shares to a long-time employee (and Anna's brother), Vincenzo Della Valle. Luigi Marson maintained his involvement until Vincenzo and his wife Angela acquired the business outright in 1980.


This heralded a new era of growth led by their son, Mark.


Our product line was subsequently expanded to include a greater variety of breads and pastries, all of which benefited from the time-honoured recipes and European-style traditions that – decades earlier – won over Stiemar Bread Windsor Co Ltd’s first customers. Mark also helped to create a line of celebratory cakes that attracted new customers in new markets.


The ensuing years further enhanced our reputation, and soon there was an insatiable demand for Stiemar Bread Windsor Co Ltd’s baked goods across the border, in Michigan. As a result, our bakery runs in two shifts; our ovens go cold only long enough to ensure adherence to our exacting operating standards.


In 2001, Vincenzo and Angela moved to preserve Stiemar Bread Windsor Co Ltd’s family roots by dividing the business between Mark, and daughters Anita and Ann Marie. Today, Mark's wife, Connie, and their son, Vincent, are also engaged in the bakery's daily operation, working side-by-side with employees who have dedicated years to our mutual success.


Studies show family-owned businesses rarely survive beyond the second generation. And just 16 percent last more than 60 years.


Stiemar Bread Windsor Co Ltd is the exception. Because our baked goods, and our customers who love them, are exceptional.
